Relegated Southampton have confirmed that manager Ruben Selles will be parting ways with the club at the end of the season, with The Saints’ home fixture against Liverpool on Sunday set to be his last in charge.
The club, who are thought to have agreed terms with current Swansea boss Russell Martin to be their new manager, released a short statement confirming Selles’ departure from the club: “The club wants to place on record its thanks to Ruben for taking on the managerial position at a difficult time for the club and for giving his all as we attempted to stay in the Premier League.
“Ruben will take charge of the team for the final game against Liverpool on Sunday at St Mary’s. We wish him all the best for his future career.”
Spaniard Selles was The Saints third manager of a wretched season that saw them start with Ralph Hasenhuttl in charge before the first change saw Nathan Jones take over. But no amount of managerial switching was able to save the south coast side as they ended the season rock bottom of the table with just six wins to date.
Martin, who is due to be unveiled as the new boss in a couple of days spent his playing days at Norwich City where he skippered them in the Premier League. He also played for Scotland.
