GOLF: Louis Albertse wins second Sunshine Tour event: Winning never gets easier

May 29, 2023

Louis Albertse

Louis Albertse won the Sunshine Tour’s Kit Kat Cash and Carry Pro-Am at Irene Country Club on Sunday.

Albertse, who turned pro in 2018, finished ahead of second-placed Kyle Barket and third-placed Charl Cronje to win the title and R320,000 prize money.

He sunk a 30-foot birdie on the 18th hole to cap a four-under 68 in the final round. His 23-under overall was well ahead of Barker’s 19-under.

“It’s always really hard to win, it never gets easier. Everyone here is extremely talented and the pressure can get to you – 18 holes is a long time,” said Albertse.

“I just tried to stay in it, focus on my own game as much as I could. I just tried to play good shot after good shot.”

This is Albertse’s second Sunshine Tour win. His first was in the third leg of the Vodacom Origins of Golf Series at Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate in September 2021.

“Having a good lead is nice because it means you can hit conservative shots, especially on holes 14 to 16,” he added.

“I scored my first nine-under here at Irene, back in my amateur days. I just really enjoy the course and coming back here. I feel comfortable here.”
