England name unchanged squad for final Ashes Test
July 25, 2023

England have named an unchanged squad for the fifth and final Ashes Test which will be played at The Oval from Thursday.
Australia have already retained the Ashes after rain washed out the final day’s play of the fourth Test at Old Trafford with the hosts in a powerful position.
The Old Trafford result means that at best England can only draw the series 2-2 if they win in London, a result that is not enough to wrest the famous trophy from the grip of Pat Cummins’ Australians.
Despite the fact that The Ashes will be returning to Australia there is still a lot to play for in the final game. England will be desperate to draw the series while in turn Australia will be hoping to achieve their first outright series win in England since 2001.
It will also, in all likelihood, be the final time several of the England stars play against Australia with many expected to retire before the next Ashes series begins at the end of 2025. Player likely to be facing Australia for the last time include spinner Moeen Ali, veteran quicks James Anderson and Stuart Broad as well as Mark Wood and Chris Woakes.
The full England squad is as follows: Ben Stokes (Durham, captain), Moeen Ali (Warwickshire), James Anderson (Lancashire), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Zak Crawley (Kent), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Dan Lawrence (Essex), Ollie Robinson (Sussex), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Josh Tongue (Worcestershire), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Mark Wood (Durham).
