Gunners 6-0 win sets records for Arsenal and Sheffield
March 5, 2024

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was in an ebullient mood on Monday evening after his side dispatched Sheffield United 6-0 at Bramall Lane.
Five first-half goals and another in the second stanza meant that Arsenal became the second side in top-flight history to score five or more goals in three successive away league games – the only other time this happened was in 1961 when Burnley achieved the feat.
By contrast Sheffield United became the first side in English football league history to concede five or more goals in four successive home games in all competitions, and the first side in English league football to lose three consecutive home league games by at least a five-goal margin.
It was brutal stuff to watch if you were a Blades fan, but from Arteta’s point of view it was fantastic.
Speaking after the game to Sky Sports, Arteta said: “I love the way the team played with the quality we showed. The aggression as well, with and without the ball, but we are delighted with the way we played and also kept a clean sheet.
“We have to continue what we are doing and I’m happy to get some players back like Fabio Vieira and Thomas Partey – now it’s about maintaining momentum.
“We will enjoy this today and then it is Brentford – we will keep going.”
Arsenal now boasts the distinction of scoring the most goals in the league and conceding the fewest. Asked if their superior goal difference was as important factor in their attempt to win the league, Arteta said: “I don’t know if it will be crucial. We need to win the remaining games and in order to do that we have to beat Brentford.
“I don’t know how tough it is going to be against Brentford, we will try to prepare in the best possible way and try to win the game.”
Arsenal versus Brentford kicks off on Saturday at 7:30pm.
