Victorious Rulani Mokwena not thinking about Cup Final until league is finished
May 6, 2024

Mamelodi Sundowns will face Orlando Pirates in the final of the Nedbank Cup after substitutes Khuliso Mudau and Thembinkosi Lorch came off the bench to score against in-form Stellenbosch FC, a side who were unbeaten in their previous 25 games.
But Sundowns and their coach Rulani Mokwena are nothing if not well versed at winning, as the Brazilians saw off the Stellenbosch challenge.
Speaking to the media after the game Mokwena said: “Yeah, it was a difficult game, of course against a difficult team and you can see why they went 25 games unbeaten, but I thought we were very good today.
“Tactically, I think we got the tactics spot on, and I think compliments to these players.
“We got through today because of the mentality. Unfortunately, we had to make an early sub with Divine Lunga, but Thapelo Morena was amazing when he came on.
“Lorch was amazing when he came on, so big compliments to the football club, congratulations to Sundowns for yet another final this season. We keep going now, we try to win the next one.”
The league may already be in the bag, but Mokwena was quick to stress that winning is a habit, and it was not one he intended to break as he refused to be drawn on a Cup Final against Pirates.
“Yea, but first is the next league match against Golden Arrows and then we have to go and try to finish the league properly, like the defending champions and then we will see.
“We will cross the Pirates bridge when we get to it. Now let’s put our feet on the ground, celebrate the win for sure, it’s important for us, but also, at the same time, keep our feet on the ground, stay humble, stay focused, there’s still quite a number of games to be played before the final.”
The final of the Nedbank Cup is due to be played on 1 June at Mbombela Stadium.
