Arsenal match-winner Havertz should have been sent off for diving, argues Brentford boss

Arsenal moved top of the Premier League table on Saturday after Arsenal’s German star Kai Havertz netted a late winner to secure a 2-1 win over Brentford.
The Brentford gaffer Thomas Frank was furious after the match, highlighting the fact that Havertz was on a yellow card when the referee waved play on after the German Gunner had allegedly taken a dive looking for a penalty in the Brentford box.
The score then was 1-1 and, according to Frank, Havertz’s dive should have earned him a second yellow and, hence, his marching orders. Had the referee ruled that way, Havertz would not have been on the field and able to score the winner four minutes from the end of normal time.
“I actually don’t think Havertz should have been on the pitch when he scored the goal. For me it was a clear dive in the penalty (area). If you see that slowly, the diving is clear,” argued Frank. “Maybe it’s difficult for the ref but the linesman maybe should have seen it.
“We are in that spell where we need to fight so hard for things and they put so much effort in there the players, it’s incredible. So you need things also to go your way, especially things you can’t control, like the referee decisions.”
The defeat leaves Brentford on 26 points in 15th place, just five points above the drop zone. Meanwhile, Arsenal moved up into first place and on Monday morning were level with Liverpool on 64 points, but ahead of their title rivals on goal difference.
