Australia take series 3-0 with quickfire win in 3rd ODI
February 7, 2024

Australia grabbed themselves a crazy world record as they chased down a target of just 87 runs inside seven overs to beat the West Indies by eight wickets and complete the shortest-ever ODI.
Batting first the Windies were dismissed for a paltry 86 runs in 24.1 overs. Playing in just his second ODI Xavier Bartlett ripped the heart out of the West Indies batting line-up with figures of four for 21.
The Baggy Greens made light work of the target chasing it down in 6.5 overs to claim the series 3-0.
Speaking after the game Bartlett, who was named both player of the match and of the series, said: “It’s pretty insane. It’s just great to get a taste of international cricket. To cap it off with a series win was great.
“There was still some pressure there today, but I relaxed a little bit more and tried to enjoy it a little bit more and they came out alright again,” he said.
Meanwhile Aussie skipper Steve Smith added: “It was good performance. The boys put the ball in the right areas this afternoon and got the rewards. Everything seemed to happen quickly. Everything seemed to just work out.
“It’s been a good opportunity to expose a few of the players to international cricket. They’ve shown that they can perform at this level.
“I thought Xavier, the way he swung the new ball was outstanding. Lance came in today before he hurt himself and bowled nicely as well.”
Smith also had a special mention for opener Jake Fraser-McGurk who struck a brisk 41 from 18 balls to bring about the quick finish. “That was exciting wasn’t it. Geez he hits them clean when he gets a hold of them.
“I’m sure we’re going to see plenty more of that in the future.”
