BAFANA BAFANA: Lyle Foster absent from Broos’ squad

Kaizer Chiefs’ decline in status and form was shockingly highlighted on Tuesday when Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos named a preliminary 34-player squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifier against Morocco in June.
Both South Africa and the Atlas Lions have already qualified for the tournament, so the tie is a dead rubber, but there will be plenty to play for in terms of pride as South Africa look to get one over the side that made it all the way to the semi-finals of the recently completed Soccer World Cup.
Commenting on the size of the squad a spokesperson for Safa said: “The preliminary squad will be trimmed to 23 players early next month when Broos announces his final list for the eagerly anticipated match between the two sides.”

Aside from the presence of a single Chiefs player, the other notable absentee from what is an otherwise strong line-up is Burnley’s English Premier League striker Lyle Foster. No explanation was given for his absence.
Given that the squad includes other key first-team regulars, like Ronwen Williams, Teboho Mokoena, Themba Zwane and Percy Tau it does appear curious that Foster has not been included.
