Both Tuchel and Ten Hag unhappy as seven goals scored in Munich

Manchester United scored three goals but still went down to Bayern Munich in their Champions clash on Wednesday night as the German Champions banged four of their own past Andre Onana.

It was a case of too-little-too-late for United who found themselves trailing 2-0 at the half before conceding a third, from the penalty spot shortly after Rasmus Hojlund had put them within one.

A further Bayern goal seemed to put the game beyond doubt before two late strikes from Casimero, the second of which came in the 95th minute, lent the result an air of respectability.

It was a result that left both managers perplexed and unhappy – although Bayern boss Tomas Tuchel was clearly the happier of the two.

Speaking after the game Tuchel told DAZN: “It was a bit paradoxical because our second half was better than our first, but we lost the second and won the first.

“Tonight’s result was big for our confidence and development, but there are still things to work on.

“We’re posing a threat in every game, creating chances in every game, but we were very reserved in the opening exchanges and lucky not to fall behind.

“The goals helped up establish some confidence and fluidity. We’re not 100% happy so far, but the reactions to adversity tonight were very good,” he said.

Meanwhile, reflecting on the evening’s performance Erik ten Hag told TNT Sports: “I am disappointed because we should stay in the game. If you score three goals at Bayern Munich, you have to take a point.

“We are in a period; a lot is going against us. We have to make our own luck. We’ve played great teams in the last three games.”

He went on to comment on the performance of goalkeeper Andre Onana who earlier accepted some blame for the scoreline: “It’s good he’s doing that but it’s about the team.

“Mistakes are being made but you have to bounce back as a team. If one player makes a mistake, it’s done, it’s gone. We have to believe as a team that we can always bounce back. Tonight, we showed it,” he said.
