CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Mokwena confident Sundowns don’t need extra motivation
May 19, 2023

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says that his side will not be short of motivation as they go head-to-head with Morocco’s defending champions Wydad Athletic for a place in the CAF Champions League final.
Sundowns returned from the away leg of the clash with a 0-0 draw in the bag, a result that makes them slight favourites to advance to the final.
Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s big game Mokwena said his side would scarcely have to factor the passing of their former public relations manager Alex Shakoane into their motivations.
“At this point of the season, we don’t need a lot of motivation,” he said.
“Who we are, and the work we have done, and the ambitions we harbour should be enough, but of course if we were to be short of motivation, uncle Alex will be the fuel and driving motivation towards that because he was a giant and a legend.”
Looking ahead to the weekend he added: “It’s only half time. We have the second half to play against the defending champions and we are looking forward to it.
“The team is ready. We have had a super, super season though it could be better.
“If you look at what we have done, our performance in the Champions League in Cairo, Algeria and Casablanca and you see what I see is an incredible group of players that does all it can to represent the club with integrity and give their best efforts.”
