Cape Town Spurs remain in relegation battle, SuperSport United want to bounce back against Kaizer Chiefs
April 25, 2024

Coach Ernst Middendorp has encouraged Cape Town Spurs to maintain Premier Soccer League status for next season.
Spurs are currently at the bottom of the 2023-24 PSL points table after three wins, three draws and 18 defeats – and struggling to avoid relegation.
They will face Richards Bay on Friday and Polokwane City on Tuesday.
“Everything depends on Friday. If we don’t win on Friday and then you can close the book, that’s the reality. We have to win this game – we have to get three points,” said Middendorp.
“If we play a draw it’s not good enough. We have to win the game, it is as simple as that. How we do it, it doesn’t matter – 1-0 or whatever it doesn’t matter.
“The most important thing is not to switch off to make it happen. We need high focus, high commitment in each and every second of that game. At the professional level you can’t switch off as we’ve seen it again and again in our games.”
Meanwhile, SuperSport United striker Gamphani Lungu is looking forward to a tough challenge againt Kaizer Chiefs this week.
SuperSport’s last five PSL fixtures have yielded three draws and two defeats. They are in fifth position in the standings. Chiefs’ last five PSL matches have brought four defeats and one draw. They are in 10th position.
“I think we just need to keep on playing our game and trust the process. Hopefully, we get the result that we need,” Lungu told the Sowetan.
“It makes this match more difficult because they are also desperate to win. We are also coming to the end of the business end of the season and every point counts.
“The moral is down and the coaches are trying their best to lift us up, and we need to get back to the right mindset. We will approach this game like any and hopefully get back to winning ways.”
