Carabao Cup draw throws up enticing last 16 clashes

September 28, 2023

Steven Gerrard confirmed as new Al-Ettifaq manager

The draw for the last 16 of the Carabao Cup threw up some enticing clashes, including a repeat of last season’s final between Newcastle United and Manchester United, when it took place on Wednesday night immediately after the completion of the round’s fixtures.

There is a London derby between West Ham and Arsenal and all Premier League clashes between Everton and Burnley and Bournemouth and Liverpool.

There is also a curious tie between lower league outfits Mansfield Town (from League two) and Port Vale (League One), which means that there will be at least one side from below The Championship advancing to the quarters.

Ipswich are rewarded for their come-from-behind 3-2 win over Wolves with another tie against Premier League opposition. They host Fulham at Portman Road.

The full fixture list is as follows. All games will be played in the week commencing 30 October.

Mansfield Town v Port Vale
Ipswich Town v Fulham
Manchester United v Newcastle United
Bournemouth v Liverpool
Chelsea v Blackburn Rovers
West Ham United v Arsenal
Everton v Burnley
Exeter City v Middlesbrough
