E: A special team must play special football says Chiefs boss Cavin Johnson

February 19, 2024

Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs boss has urged his team to take their game to the next level after they delivered a below-par performance against Royal AM on Sunday.

The league resumed after the mid-season break, but it was a disappointingly disjointed Amakhosi that turned up at Harry Gwala Stadium where, despite numerous chances, the game ended 0-0.

Speaking after the match, Johnson told the media: “We missed four one-on-ones with their goalkeeper; two in the first half and two in the second half but overall, I don’t think my team played good football.

“I thought we could have played better football, so we have to go back to the drawing board,” he said.

“We need to be better on the ball. We are not just a normal team; we are a special team and I want us to play special football.

“We are going away with a draw, taking a point but we need to be much better.

“The weather today was probably the best weather to play football in, but I think my team can only play football in 35°C. When it’s like this [moderate] we seem to struggle,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs will have a chance to put things right on Sunday when they face minnows Milford in the Nedbank Cup. Thereafter it is a return to PSL action on 2 March with a game against troubled Moroka Swallows.
