ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE: ‘I enjoyed it’ says Maresca after 1-1 draw with Arsenal

Arsenal at Stamford bridge on Sunday

Chelsea will go into the international break sitting third on the Premier League table after they came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Stamford bridge on Sunday evening.

Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 60th minute after an assist from skipper Martin Odegaard, but the Blues were able to restore parity quickly as Pedro Neto fired in a long-range banger ten minutes later.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said: “I enjoyed it, absolutely. The performance was good. We know them quite well and we competed pretty well. The performance is very important for us in this moment and it was good. We can rest now and go again.

“The performance from Pedro Neto was very good, all of them, complete. We played in the way we wanted to, brave, and try and play from the back always,” he said.

Reflecting on the display from midfielder Moises Caicedo he added: “He has been a top professional ever since I arrived and he’s playing fantastic.

“Defensively we were very good, apart from the goal we conceded, but the rest we were good.”

“It is the way we want to do things. We try and play face-to-face against every team. We are Chelsea, so it is important to send this message. Some managers have been at clubs for five and nine years so we are behind them,” he said.

When the league resumes after the international break Chelsea travel to face Leicester City on 23rd November.
