EPL: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gets two-match ban for Paul Tierney comment
May 19, 2023

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has received a two-match ban for a comment made about referee Paul Tierney.
Klopp suggested Tierney was “against” Liverpool after April 2023’s 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.
Tierney had issued Klopp a yellow card after the Liverpool manager celebrated in front of the fourth official.
Klopp later regreted the remark: “The whole situation should not have happened at all. It was out of emotion and anger in that moment. That’s why I celebrated the way I did.
“We won a game 4-3 in a spectacular manner and the only headlines I created and I really regret that. It’s not necessary and not how it should be.”
Klopp will miss Sunday’s EPL fixture with Aston Villa and Anfield. The second half of the two-match ban is suspended until the end of the 2023-24 season, provided Klopp does not commit similar breaches.
He has also been fined £75,000.
