EPL Wrap: Everton and Forest Monday’s big winners
May 9, 2023

Everton and Nottingham Forest did their chances of Premier League survival the world of good on Monday night as both sides secured convincing victories in a day that saw 21 goals scored across three Premier League games.
Everton ran out 5-1 winners over Brighton while Forest, who started the day second from bottom beat last placed side Southampton 4-3, a result, that barring a miracle, means The Saints will be plying their trade in the Championship next season.
The big losers on the day were Leicester City who lost 5-3 to Fulham. Speaking after the game England and Foxes midfielder James Maddison said, “We were not hungry enough to want to win the game.
“It is tough. No easy game in the Premier League – it is a cliche but so true. We will keep fighting. We will keep trying to put it right.”
With three games to go in the Premier League the bottom remains congested with Southampton last on 24 points trailing Leeds and Leicester City who each have 30 points. Everton are now on to 32 points and Forest on 33.
“People will be out there thinking, ‘Right, OK, there’s life in that team’ but we’ve never lost sight of that,” said Everton boss Dyche.
“It just reminds the players that their work ethic, their commitment to the cause, their commitment to the group is really important because I know there’s quality. They’re very high, feeling the feel-good factor. But it’s only another step.
“I said that after Arsenal, and sometimes people forget that. There’s three more big steps we’ve got to take.”
For his part Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi, who saw his sides slim hopes of a top four finish evaporate, said “We made a mistake in our mentality.
“We arrived second in every situation, especially in the first half. It was too easy. We made too many mistakes. If we want to achieve our target, we can’t make these mistakes,” he said.
