FORMULA ONE: Lewis Hamilton relieved season is over

November 28, 2023

Lewis Hamilton

A disconsolate former F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton says the best thing about Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was the fact that it heralded the end of the end of the season.

It was another race won by a huge margin by current World Champion Max Verstappen. The Dutchman finished 17 seconds ahead of second place Charles Leclerc. For his part Hamilton trailed home in a distant ninth place.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the race Hamilton was asked what he would take away from the season: “Not too much. It hasn’t been a great year, there isn’t a lot to take from it in general. The fact that I survived it is probably about it.”

Hamilton, who is now without a win in two seasons was then asked if he was confident that next season would be closer. For fans who enjoy the thrill of racing, his answer was not promising: “At this moment I don’t really know. For Red Bull to win by 17 seconds in the end and they haven’t developed their car since August is definitely a concern.

“We have learned a lot about the car, and it is down to the team now,” he said.

The 2023 Formula One is now complete. The teams will take a break until 2024 when the new season starts at the beginning of March with a race in Bahrain.
