GOLF: Wyndham Clark beats Rory McIlroy to US Open title
June 19, 2023

The United States of America’s Wyndham Clark won the US Open in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Clark carded a level-par 70 to finish 10 under for a maiden Major win.
“US Opens are tough. I felt at ease though and kept saying to myself, ‘I can do this, I can do this’,” said Clark.
“I just feel like it was my time. I have dreamed of this moment for so long and many times I have visualized being here in front of you guys and winning this championship.”
The 29-year-old Clark beat Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy by one shot. McIlroy has not won a Major for almost a decade.
“I’m right there, it’s such fine margins. I have just got to keep putting myself in these positions. Sooner or later it’s going to happen for me,” said McIlroy.
“It was tough to get the ball close to the holes, but I hung in there and just didn’t quite get the job done.
“I will keep coming back until I get another one.”
American Scottie Scheffler and Australian Cameron Smith finished in third and fourth position, respectively. Three players, including American Rickie Fowler, tied for fifth position.
South African Aldrich Potgieter finished in 64th position.
