New Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou says he will make it a priority to try and keep striker Harry Kane at the club.

Kane has been linked with moves to several clubs, with Bayern Munich seemingly the favourite to capture the England skipper’s signature, but the Australian manager says he will do his best to persuade Kane to stay.

Speaking to the media he said: “Kane is one of the premier strikers in the world and I want him involved here.

“I just want to introduce myself to Harry, give him my vision, get an understanding from him over what his vision is and try to be successful.

“My conversation with him will be about how we can make this club successful and there is no doubt that is what he wants as well.”

Kane, who is Spurs’ record goal scorer with 280 goals from 435 appearances for the club is due back in training on Wednesday and Postecoglou said he would ignore all speculation about the stars future and concentrate on the current reality.

“What I know right now is Harry is part of this squad and looking forward to coming back among players, training, start working together.

“If I spend too much time worrying about impact, I will miss trying to build a team.

“Ultimately that is what will make us successful, build a team a certain way. I am not going to miss this initial opportunity to establish what will be important in the long term. It goes beyond individuals. There is an overriding philosophy on who we want to be as a team and the key people within that.

After assembling and training in London the Spurs squad are due to head abroad for a three-match tour a three-match tour of Australia, Thailand, and Singapore.
