Injured Novak Djokovic is looking for a speedy return to competition after knee surgery… but he might miss Wimbledon

French Open

Defending men’s singles champion at the French Open, Novak Djokovic has signaled his intention to return to action as soon as possible following the knee surgery that forced him to pull out of this year’s French Open.

Djokovic tore the medial meniscus in his right knee during his grueling five-set win over Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, with the 24-time Grand Slam winner coming from 2-1 down to win 3-2 (6-1 5-7 3-6 7-5 6-3). Sadly, the damage had been done, and he was forced to withdraw from a quarter-final duel with Casper Ruud.

Doctors have suggested that Djokovic will require three weeks for his injury to heal, which suggests that he is likely to miss out on playing at Wimbledon, which starts on 1 July, and might even cause him to miss the Olympic Games in Paris (27 July).

“I’m still processing it all but I am happy to update you that the surgery went well. My love for this sport is strong and the desire to compete at the highest level is what keeps me going,” wrote Djokovic on X.

“I am so appreciative of the team of doctors who have been by my side as well as the overwhelming support I have received from my fans. I’m going to do my best to be healthy and fit to return to the court as soon as possible.”
