Julen Lopetegui reportedly agrees deal with West Ham with Moyes set to leave at season’s end

Although it has not been officially confirmed, the BBC are reporting that former Real Madrid, Sevilla and Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui is set to be appointed boss at West Ham at the end of the season.
David Moyes is currently in charge of matters for the Hammers, but his contract expires at the end of the season and there has been plenty of speculation surrounding his future in recent weeks.
According to the BBC: “Nothing has been signed yet, but the 57-year-old is close to making a return to management following his departure from Wolves in August last year.”
As a player Lopetegui, who is now 57 years old, played in goal for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Spain, although he is probably best remembered for his time at Rayo Vallecano.
As a manager he won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2020. He then joined Wolves, who he led to a 13th-place finish in his first season in charge. He bailed on the midlands side just days before the start of the new season, and was replaced by Gary O’Neil, citing financial constraints as the reason for his sudden departure.
Since leaving Molineux he has been linked with a number of coaching positions, but it seems like West Ham have secured his services, with an official announcement expected to be made come the end of the season.
West Ham, who lost 5-0 to Chelsea on Sunday return to action on the weekend when they play relegation-threatened Luton Town.
