Max Verstappen relishes Miami Grand Prix win

May 9, 2023

Max Verstappen won the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday.

Reigning world champion Verstappen moved from ninth on the grid to beat Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez, who had pole, to first position.

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso finished in third position.

“I always feel unbeatable but, sometimes, other people also have a really good day and they can be close to you or match you and be ahead,” Verstappen told Sky F1.

“But I think what is important is you try and be close to 100 percent perfect every single time. Yesterday wasn’t perfect so, overall, this weekend wasn’t perfect.

“But it’s a long season, and I try to always be as close as possible to perfection.”

The victory consolidated Verstappen’s lead in the drivers championship. He won the inaugural Miami Grand Prix in 2022, too.

This is the fourth time in five 2023 races Red Bull have secured first and second position.

“I took the cars off one by one and then I could stay out really long on the hard tyres and that’s where we I think made the difference,” he added.

“For sure winning a race from P9 is always very satisfying.

Mercedes’ George Russell took fourth place and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton fifth and sixth, respectively.
