Rayners has quietened suggestion he is leaving Stellenbosch

Iqraam Rayners

Forward Iqraam Rayners has quietened suggestion he is leaving Stellenbosch ahead of the 2024-25 Premier Soccer League.

Rayners was key to Stellenbosch’s third-place finish in the 2023-24 PSL – and has reportedly been approached by Saudi Pro League club Abha.

“I don’t know yet; I haven’t made up my mind yet. I can only think about that after the Bafana Bafana matches, what will happen, but I need to return to Stellenbosch, so whatever comes my way, I will be happy,” said Rayners.

“But firstly I need to focus on my team and speak to management, if there’s offers then maybe they will know, but if I have something to say about teams that want me, I’ll go to and ask them what’s the situation because I still have a contract at Stellenbosch.”

Rayners is with South Africa for this month’s FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures against Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

“It’s not easy to play at this level compared to the PSL, this is international level, so this a great opportunity for me to test myself against the best on the continent, especially against the players of Nigeria who play for big clubs in Europe,” he added.

“I am thankful to the coach Hugo Broos for believing in me. For me, it’s a great opportunity to be here. I have the confidence to do what the coach asks me to do.”
