SA20: Klaasen on fire as DSG qualify for SA20 final

February 9, 2024

Heinrich Klaasen

Proteas batsman Heinrich Klaasen smashed a whirlwind 74 from 30 balls and then took three catches as the Durban Super Giants booked their place in the final of the SA20 with a convincing 69-run win over the Joburg Super Kings on Thursday night.

Klaasen, whose innings included seven maximums and three boundaries shared in a frantic 101-run stand for the fifth wicket with Wian Mulder who banged an impressive 50 from 23 balls.

Batting second the Joburg-based Super Kings had nothing to offer as they capitulated to a disappointing 142 all out.

Speaking after the game Klaasen said: “At the start they bowled incredibly well, there were no freebies. I had to wait for Immie to return, and he was bowling full.

“There was no length to work with in first two overs. Just unlucky he missed a couple!

“The expectation is there, and hopefully, my processes will continue for another couple of years. I’m playing the middle phase well now, and I try to capitalise on that.

“We played poorly in the first semi-final against Sunrisers, so hopefully we can rectify that,” he said.

Meanwhile, his captain Keshav Maharaj said: “Klaasen is just picking up where he left off, he hits the ball so cleanly, and he gave us something to bowl at.

“Not many hit the ball as consistently as he does – he’s a nightmare to bowl to.

“We’ve been true to our processes, and our bowling unit was superb, we executed the plan and kept it simple.

“Sunrisers are a strong side, so we’ve just got to get going on the day,” he said.
