Steven Gerrard confirmed as new Al-Ettifaq manager

Former Liverpool skipper turned manager Steven Gerrard has become the latest big name to join the Saudi Pro League following the confirmation that he will take charge of Dammam-based side Al-Ettifaq.

 

Gerrard, who had spells in charge of Rangers and Aston Villa once his playing career was over, won the Champions League as a player and represented England in 114 internationals.

Gerrard has signed a two-year contract with the Saudi club who finished seventh in the 16-team Saudi Pro League last season.

Announcing Al-Ettifaq’s deal with Gerrard the club’s chairman Khalid Al-Dabal said: “Without a doubt, Gerrard’s presence will be an addition and a quantum leap to our league.”

The chairman’s message was followed with a message on Twitter that read: “Where legends are found. We’re thrilled to announce Steven Gerrard is our new head coach.”

Gerrard has been out of work since parting ways with Aston Villa in October 2022.
