Stellenbosch striker Devin Titus gets emergency call-up to Bafana squad

Devin Titus

Stellenbosch FC forward Devin Titus has been drafted into the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of Friday’s AFCON qualifying game against Uganda after Mihlali Mayambela was forced to withdraw due to injury.

The unlucky Mayambela was injured on the weekend while in action for his Cyprus-based club Aris Limassol.

Bafana coach Hugo Broos confirmed the situation: “Unfortunately, Mayambela will not join us in camp, and he will be replaced by Devin Titus from Stellenbosch FC.”

The SAFA website added: “An SOS has been sent to Titus’ club and he is already on the way to Johannesburg to join the team in camp.

The team assembles in Johannesburg on Monday and will begin training on the same day ahead of the away qualifier against Uganda on Friday. They will travel by charter on Thursday morning and return to South Africa on Saturday.

A win over Uganda will take South Africa top of their qualifying group and ensure their place in Morocco in 2025. A draw, or even a loss, could be enough for them to advance, but that would depend on how Congo gets along in their game against South Sudan.
