TENNIS: Friday’s tennis preview and accumulator picks – expect Djokovic to win Paris Masters
November 3, 2023

Novak Djokovic faces a third tough test of his comeback when he clashes with Holger Rune in Paris.
Rune beat Djokovic in last season’s final, but this season they meet in the last eight.
The WTA Finals in Cancun also continue on Friday.
Paris Masters: Hubert Hurkacz vs Grigor Dimitrov | Pick: Hurkacz
Paris Masters: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Karen Khachanov | Pick: Tsitsipas
Paris Masters: Novak Djokovic vs Holger Rune | Pick: Djokovic
Paris Masters: Alex De Minaur vs Andrey Rublev | Pick: Rublev
WTA Finals Cancun: Coco Gauff vs Marketa Vondrousova | Pick: Gauff
WTA Finals Cancun: Iga Swiatek vs Ons Jabeur | Pick: Iga Swiatek
Paris Masters: Hubert Hurkacz vs Grigor Dimitrov
This will be the fourth clash overall between Hubert Hurkacz and Grigor Dimitrov with the Pole yet to win in matches against the Bulgarian.
With the ATP Tour Finals calling out to him, Hurkacz needs to come good and prove that he is among the best players in the world.
Hurkacz is clearly among the best servers in the world on his day, and Dimitrov could struggle to contain him.
Hurkacz is still in the finals Race but needs to keep winning to keep the heat on Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune.
Paris Masters: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Karen Khachanov
Stefanos Tsitsipas has already become the sixth man to book his place in the ATP Tour finals and will face Karen Khachanov for a place in the semi-finals.
Tstitsipas would love to add another Masters title to a pair of Monte Carlo Masters triumphs.
Tsitsipas holds a 6-1 lead in the head-to-head over Khachanov but has lost their most recent meeting at Indian Wells.
His big serve and variety from the baseline should see Tsitsipas through to the last four.
Paris Masters: Novak Djokovic vs Holger Rune
Holger Rune may hold a 2-1 lead in the head-to-head over Novak Djokovic but that is not enough to make him favourite.
Djokovic has notched a pair of convincing wins in Paris so far, and you wouldn’t bet against him winning a seventh title at the Paris Indoors.
Rune is regaining form, but it will be a tough ask for him to get beyond Djokovic and keep his run going.
Rune also beat Djokovic when they met in Rome earlier this season, only to lose his very next match.
Paris Masters: Alex De Minaur vs Andrey Rublev
Andrey Rublev will want to make Alex De Minaur do all the hard work in their clashes while he drops bombs from the wings.
Rublev will need to bring his baseline power to bear on De Minaur early and not give him a foothold in the match.
In the past, Rublev has struggled against De Minaur, but he has looked close to his best in Paris this week.
De Minaur has won three of the four meetings between the players, including the only clash between the players this season.
WTA Finals Cancun: Coco Gauff vs Marketa Vondrousova
The two WTA Finals matches on Friday will decide the players who advance to the semi-finals from this group.
If Iga Swiatek defeats Ons Jabeur and Coco Gauff bests Vondrousova, Swiatek will win the group and Gauff will be second.
It does get more complicated for Gauff if she doesn’t win the match against Vondrousova, with Jabeur then set to progress.
Gauff has won both of the previous meetings between these players while Vondrousova needs to both defeat her in straight sets, and for Swiatek to also beat Jabeur in straight sets, to have a chance of advancing.
WTA Finals Cancun: Iga Swiatek vs Ons Jabeur
Iga Swiatek is in the strongest position of all four players as she can only be eliminated if she loses to Jabeur in straight sets, combined with a Gauff victory over Jabeur in straight sets as well.
In such a case, Swiatek, Jabeur and Gauff would be tied with a 2-1 match record and 4-2 set record, and the semifinalists would be decided by game percentage.
It seems safe to assume that Swiatek will advance, considering how well she has played this week in Cancun.
Swiatek holds a 4-2 lead in the head-to-head between the players and hasn’t lost to Jabeur since 2021.
